The Good Shepherd By Brandon Burton on 4 Oct 2005 Matthew 18:12-14 “What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should be lost.” (NIV) What an amazing picture of the Father’s tender heart of love for His children. To even see this picture more clearly, verse 2 of this chapter reveals how “He called a little child and had him stand among them.” (NIV) This picture of this child appears to be the case while Christ was telling this parable. Christ is revealing the heart of the Father in that He does not want any lost. Do you feel lost? Do you feel like you have wandered away? The Bible has great news for you! The Bible tells us that The Good Shepherd who is Christ will come look for you in order to bring you back to the fold. He wants you safe back in His protection. He is calling your name. The Good Shepherd cares enough to come look for you. I want to encourage you, let Him pick you up and carry you home. For some of you, maybe you did not wander away. Are you one of those who were dragged away early in life before you ever really had a chance? Perhaps the wolf came and dragged you away. For some, that wolf was physical or sexual abuse when you were a child. For others, that wolf might have been the lies of a parent or family member who gave you the message that you are unlovable. Might you be one who grew up in an alcoholic home where you had to hide from all of the dangers of life? It is a scary and lonely place to be dragged away into the wilderness. If you listen, you can hear the Shepherd call you by name. The Good Shepherd is looking for you. He wants to bring you home under His care. He does not want to lose you. Christ is yearning to scoop you up in His arms of love and care for you. He will not be angry with you when He finds you. God’s heart is so tender and full of love that He will heal and restore you in His place of safety. I want to encourage you, let Christ pick you up and save you.
