Sanctuary of God Transforms

Brandon Burton

Psalm 73:16&17 “When I pondered to understand this, It was troublesome in my sight Until I came into the sanctuary of God; Then I perceived their end. (NASB)

The author here in Psalm 73 was explaining his frustrations with watching the wicked prosper while the pure of heart faced so many struggles and afflictions. How common is this that hard working people experience that same frustration from trying to make an honest living while watching those people of questionable ethics, honesty, and integrity prosper? The Bible is giving us an example of a spiritual person (i.e. an author of psalms) who dealt with this same temptation. If you were to read the entire chapter, there is a significant change in v17 when the author “came into the sanctuary of God.” God revealed how He would deal with the wicked, and that it is ultimately not our place to be the judge. The scriptures go on to reveal how the wicked do not prosper forever, and their end is destruction. As with most things with God, it is just not on our schedule. Additionally, the destruction of the wicked is so terrible in the end that is something that we would not likely have wished upon anyone. As it goes with the end of the chapter, the author is transformed in the sanctuary of God. The presence of God allowed him to see the truth, and it allowed him ultimately to draw closer to God. He became less concerned about what others were doing as he was focused on his walk with the Almighty. God helped Him overcome the frustrations of life. As always, God does this with mercy and care. God promises to help guide those who seek Him who may be struggling with an embittered heart. It does not take long for those frustrations of watching the wicked prosper for those frustrations to turn into an embittered heart. Seek God, He is good. He will guide you. He is the God of Peace. If you are struggling with frustrations or bitterness of heart, God desires to set you free. Seek Him, and the Prince of Peace will guide you.
